The C 414 B/XLS has been carefully designed to maintain the legendary sonic character of the C 414 family while integrating new features and performance enhancements made possible by new technology. The C 414B/XLS is designed to deliver accurate pickup of all acoustic instruments and voices. The microphone's 5 pickup patterns are easily selectable via an electronic switch with LED indication and offer the selection of omnidirectional, cardioid, wide cardioid, hypercardioid and figure-eight patterns. The pickup pattern selector switch utilizes a dual-color LED indicator that provides visual indication of the pattern selected and also changes from green to red to indicate if the microphone's output electronics are being overloaded. The pattern selector can also be used to "lock" the microphone's switch settings by pressing and holding it for 3 seconds. On the rear of the microphone, an electronic switch allows the selection of -6 dB, -12 dB and -18 dB pre-attenuation levels which are accomplished by changing the polarization voltage to the capsule. The C 414 B/XLS has switchable bass cut filters of 12 dB-per-octave at 40 Hz and 80 Hz, and a 6-dB-per-octave filter at 160 Hz for control of proximity effect. On-axis sensitivity for all patterns is 23 mV/Pa and its self-noise is an extremely low 6 dB-A. The C 414 B/XLS has a transformerless output and all-metal chassis, making it immune to electrical interference and RF from digital equipment, video monitors and wireless systems. It comes complete in an all-metal road case with the AKG H-85 shock mount, a PF80 external two-stage pop filter, a W414X external windscreen and an individually-measured chart showing the response curve of the microphone. It is also available in factory-matched stereo pairs packaged with a H50 stereo bar instead of the external pop filter. The C 414B/XLS is built in Vienna, Austria and comes with a three-year limited parts and labor warranty. Features High sensitivity and extremely low self noise Five switchable polar patterns for placement and application flexibility Two-color LEDs provide quick visual indication of selected polar pattern and output overload Elastic capsule suspension greatly minimizes structurally-transmitted noise from chassis vibration H 85 professional shock mount/stand adapter, PF 80 external pop filter and W 414 X external windscreen High sound pressure level capability and wide dynamic range Completely immune to electrostatic and electro-magnetic interference from digital gear, computer monitors, etc. thanks to solid metal housing and transformerless output stage Three switchable bass cut filters and three pre-attenuation pads with LEDs for quick visual indication All switchable components operate in low impedance circuits for ultra-high relability even in extremely humid conditions Optional R 414 remote control unit (available by the end of 2004) offers full control of all switchable parameters via standard microphone cable and 3-pin XLR-type connectors Specifications Type: 1" large diaphragm pressure gradient microphone Polar Patterns: Omnidirectional, wide cardioid, cardioid, hypercardioid, figure eight Frequency Range: 20 to 20,000 Hz Sensitivity: 23 mV/Pa (-33 dBV) +/-0.5 dB Max. The CK-7 houses a 35mm gold-sputtered thin Mylar capsule. The CK-7 uses high grade Polystyrene and Metalized Polypropylene capacitors in the audio path. This represents a commitment to quality, as these normally are the type of "upgrade" components that are implemented by microphone modders/hot-rodders! Any studio can proudly offer the CK-7 as a vocal mic or utility condenser due to its versatility...It exudes class visually as well as sonically.

Manufactured using the finest materials yielding a very solid feel, superb structural integrity and rugged reliability. The versatile CK-7 mic is able to produce professional results with a clean sonic character. The included Custom Retro Shockmount is superb in allowing a precise positioning of the mic while inhibiting the transfer of unwanted vibrations up into the mic. This isolation allows for superior professional results. The 3 patterns allow the CK-7 to be used in a variety of situations.

The cardioid pattern is generally best used on vocals and single instruments. The omni mode works well in incorporating some room sound into the track. The figure 8 pattern allows 2 vocalists to use the mic at the same time from opposite sides. The CK-7 has separate -10 dB pad & 80 Hz LF roll off switches....The -10dB attenuation switch can be engaged when miking very high SPL sources to keep from overloading the electronics. The 80Hz high-pass filter switch can be engaged to reduce rumble and to keep unwanted low frequencies from "muddying up" the track.

Applications.

studio vocals, acoustic guitar, mandolin, drum overheads, piano, room mic

  • Cardioid polar pattern for multiplicity of vocal and instrument applications
The earlier model C 3000 has had a large fan club in the project studio and home recording worlds for years. For the new C 3000 B, AKG designed a special 1-inch large-diaphragm transducer that closely approximates the vibration performance of top-class studio microphones, but can be made at much lower cost. Due to its surface area and special capsule tuning, the C 3000 B large-diaphragm transducer produces an exceptionally pleasing, smooth sound. Unlike in the C 3000, the switchable 10-dB preattenuation pad immediately follows the transducer in the signal path, thus increasing the C 3000 B\'s SPL capability by a true 10 dB. Loud sound sources are therefore no problem. An acoustically optimized cardioid polar pattern makes the C 3000 B an excellent choice for both recording and live sound applications where high gain before feedback is paramount.
