The Tascam LA-40 MKIII has been primarily designed to provide matching capabilities between professional equipment and semi-professional or consumer equipment. It consists of four RCA inputs and outputs (–10 dBV, unbalanced) as well as four XLR inputs and outputs (+4 dBu/–20 dBu, balanced) which enable the user to connect for instance four tracks of a multitrack recorder (ins and outs) to a balanced mixer ensuring optimum level and impedance matching. Also, a switch matrix allows channels to be linked, utilizing the converter as a distribution amplifier for splitting signals to multiple recorders, or for multizone sound routing applications.
Switches on the bottom panel allow to select a nominal level of +4 dBu or –20 dBu for each channel and ±12 dB trim pots on the front panel make perfect level matching easy. LEDs on the front panel indicate signal presence for each channel. The LA-40 MKIII has also ground lift switches for each channel and a combined master switch to avoid ground loops.

The Apogee X-VID-SYC-GEN Video Expansion Card is designed to fit in the X-Series card slot located in the rear panel of the Apogee Big Ben Master Digital Clock (sold separately). Allows all functions to be controlled from the Big Ben user interface and generates video and provides genlocking function. In genlocking mode the source video-signal will be re-clocked and regenerated, maintaining the same
field and colorburst phase information, but stripped of its line information and replaced by video-black. In slave mode the board will auto-detect the incoming video-standard and configure itself accordingly. The video input is of very high tolerance and will even lock to unstable sources like VCR's.
The Apogee X-VID-SYC-GEN Video Expansion Board has three modes of operation.
•Master mode: The user selects the video format on the frontpanel of the Big Ben. The Big Ben will slave to the generated video signal
•Attended Slave mode: The video board will be configured to autodetect and genlock to the incoming video. The Big Ben will slave to the incoming video signal
•Unattended Slave mode: The video board will be configured to autodetect and genlock to the incoming video. The Big Ben is not clocking to the Video board and therefore both will function independently
Features - Support for PAL, NTSC and 60 Hz B&W standards
- One composite video input and three composite video outputs
- Can operate as a master black-burst generator
- Can operate as genlocking slave device

- The recording times shown above are estimates. They might differ depending on the SD/SDHC card in use.
- The recording times shown above are not continuous recording times, but rather they are the total possible recording times for the SD/SDHC card.
- If recorded in mono in WAV files, the maximum recording time will be double the figures above.
- For dual and 4-channel recording in WAV/BWF format, the recording times are about half those shown above.
