Fast, User-Friendly Operability

The H6\’s front panel is ergonomically arranged with its most essential and commonly used controls—transport buttons for record, play/pause, stop, back, and forward operations, individual record-arm buttons that double as mute switches during playback, large gain knobs, and pad switches. For added safety, a hold switch disables all front-panel buttons to prevent accidental operation during recording.

Day or night, view vital information such as audio levels, recording time, battery status, and more on the 2″ full-color LCD, which happens to be backlit and angled for maximum visibility.

Instant Access to Gain Adjustments

Each H6 input has its own dedicated gain control knob. There\’s no track selection or button pressing required to optimize your recording levels; just turn the dials (clearly labeled from 0 to 10) anytime you need to adjust the gain. If your XLR-1/4″ input sources are so loud that you need even less gain than the preamps provide at the “0” setting, use four front-panel pad switches to attenuate the combo inputs by 20 dB.

Interchangeable Stereo Microphone Capsules

Leave your external mics at home and travel light; the H6 includes two interchangeable stereo microphone capsules. With nothing more than the H6, you\’re set to record speech, practice sessions, concerts, or ambient and environmental sounds, even ear-rattling ones up to 136 dB (via the X/Y capsule)!

The XYH-6 capsule provides clear, phase-accurate capture in two different X/Y positions—90° for a tight stereo image or 120° for a wider perspective. Just twist the capsules to their premarked positions to switch between the two configurations.

Switch to the MSH-6 capsule to record in a mid-side configuration. Its front-facing directional element picks up direct signal while the side-facing bidirectional element captures ambience. The H6\’s integrated MS decoder allows adjustment to the perceived width of the stereo image, which is beneficial for sound design, broadcasting, or general stereo-to-mono compatibility.

Supports Interchangeable Zoom Mic Capsules

The Zoom mic capsule input on the H6 accommodates Zoom\’s line of separately available interchangeable capsules, which can be swapped out as easily as the lenses of a camera. With shock-mounted X/Y and mono or stereo shotgun mic capsules to choose from, you can be ready to record music, dialog, or sound effects without carting an external microphone setup. Record All Channels Live or Overdub Layers

The H6 boasts 6-channel recording at up to 24-bit / 96 kHz resolution. Record all channels simultaneously or utilize the overdubbing function to add layers of instruments after an initial recording. Adjust levels and pans for your tracks, then use the H6\’s internal mixdown function to blend six tracks down to a stereo file.

SD Card Recording and Audio Interface Functionality

Maximize portability by recording directly to an SD card (up to 2GB capacity), SDHC card (up to 32GB capacity), or SDXC card (up to 128GB capacity). A 2GB card will yield over three hours of 16-bit / 44.1 kHz stereo recording time using the BWF-compliant WAV format for uncompressed audio quality and industry-standard file compatibility. Note that media cards are available separately, and larger capacity cards will increase startup times.

Alternatively, use the H6 as a 6-in/2-out USB 2.0 audio interface at up to 24-bit / 96 kHz. For audio interface operation with an iPad (Apple Camera Connection Kit required and available separately), select USB stereo mode, which offers two channels in and out at up to 16-bit / 48 kHz.

3.5mm Outputs for Simultaneous Hookup to a Camera and Headphones

The H6 boasts 3.5mm line and headphone mini-jack outputs for simultaneously feeding your camera/DSLR and a pair of headphones. Independently adjust the headphone volume via the side-panel volume control. For quick playback reference, a built-in monophonic speaker is also provided.

Powered via AA Batteries or AC Adapter

Power the H6 via four included AA batteries, or plug it into a wall outlet with an AD-17 AC adapter (available separately). Alkaline batteries can keep the H6 running for over 20 hours of continuous 16-bit / 44.1 kHz recording using the X/Y mic capsule, or for over nine hours of nonstop 24-bit / 96 kHz recording using the X/Y mic and the four XLR-1/4″ inputs. When using the H6 in the stereo USB audio interface mode, USB bus powering is possible.

Rugged and Portable, Handheld or Mounted

The durable, ergonomic body lends itself naturally to handheld use. Should you need to mount it on a mic stand or tripod, a threaded hole on the back of the H6 obviates the need for stand adapters. Obtain a hot shoe adapter (available separately) to attach the H6 directly to a DSLR.

Signal Processing Adds Sonic Polish

The H6\’s onboard effects allow you to add polish to your recordings. Compression and limiting compensate for fluctuations in input level, while a low-cut filter helps eliminate wind noise, blowing, and other kinds of low-frequency rumble. Normalize files for maximum gain, split them into smaller chunks, and even insert up to 99 marks per recording.

There\’s an onboard metronome and tuner, and you can loop playback and adjust pitch and speed independently, making the H6 an ideal tool for phrase training.

Special Recording Functions

The H6 offers selectable recording functions designed to prevent you from accidentally missing the start of a performance. By keeping the previous two seconds (one second at 96 kHz) of audio whenever you press the record button, the pre-record option ensures that you\’ll never cut off the beginning of a great take. Auto-record can automatically start recording when a user-set sound level is detected, making it great for voice-activated recording.

Backup record enables the H6 to automatically record a duplicate of the L/R input with 12 dB less input gain. Even if your original track is distorted, chances are the backup version will be fine!

Supports External Remote Control

Use the RCH-6 remote (available separately in the APH-6 accessory pack) to control the transport, arm tracks, and adjust volume at a distance while eliminating handling noise.

Eight virtual tracks are provided for each track, so you can choose the best take as you build your song. The D4 records directly to CompactFlash using one of three modes ?High Quality, Standard or Economy ? providing extended recording time with great audio quality. CompactFlash cards of up to 2 GB* may be used and each one can store up to 99 songs, recorded and saved in MP2 (MPEG-1 Layer-2) format. Despite its compact size, the D4 offers quick and convenient control of its many professional features and rich functionality. A single knob takes you from mode to mode. Five dedicated knobs provide real-time editing of the onboard REMS effects. By pushing down on these same knobs you can select recording status of each track and turn effects on and off. There?s also a ?favorites knob? that lets you instantly recall eleven of your favorite effects. The Value Dial provides a quick way to change settings and select various options. With trim knobs on both inputs (XLR and 1/4" are provided for Input 2, 1/4" only on Input 1), you?ll be able to get the optimum level in any recording situation.

The D4 provides the functionality and flexibility you?ve come to expect from Korg digital recorders, including copy, delete, punch-in recording and more. Bounce recording combines multiple tracks into one ? with no loss of fidelity ? and frees up tracks for additional recording. You can also use professional time compression/expansion editing functions to alter previously-recorded phrases so they match the tempo of your song.

KORG?s proprietary "REMS" (Resonant structure and Electronic circuit Modeling System) modeling technology simulates the audio characteristics of many classic guitar amps, legendary recording microphones and numerous effects with startling realism, adding depth and character to your original recordings. The AMP effect faithfully recreates a range of amps; from classics such as the VOX AC30TB through today?s latest guitar amps. The CABINET effect accurately simulates a wide variety of speaker cabinets that match the various AMP types. The 4-BAND EQ allows you to make detailed adjustments to the tonal character and you can also apply chorus, phaser, and flanger type MODULATION effects. For recording bass parts, the BASS DRIVE and BASS CABINET effects provide a broad spectrum of bass sounds that perfectly simulate the character of various bass rigs. What is REMS?
REMS (Resonant structure and Electronic circuit Modeling System) is Korg?s proprietary modeling technology that digitally simulates a wide range of factors that affect sound, including the sound-producing mechanism of acoustic and electric/electronic instruments, the body and cabinet resonances that affect the tone, the spatial character of the sound field in which the sound is heard, the electrical and acoustical response of the mics and speakers that are in the sound-transmission path, and the way in which electrical circuits such as vacuum tubes and transistors affect the tone.

Create multi-effect ?chains? using up to five simultaneous effects
The D4 digital recorder provides four types of effect chains, in which up to five effects can be connected in a specified order. This makes it easy to create multi-effects that are suitable for the material you?re recording. These effect chains are stored as programs, with 100 user and 100 preset locations for easy access. The presets contain programs created by professional musicians and studio engineers and are ready to use. You can edit the effects in a program and store it in the user program area. Four chain types are provided. [GUITAR/MIC] is used when applying effects to a mono input, such as guitar or vocal; [INSERT/GTR+VO] is for use with a stereo input, or when applying separate effects to a vocal track and a guitar track that are being recorded simultaneously; [MASTER] makes the overall sound more consistent; and [FINAL], which applies overall adjustments to the final output stage. A dedicated switch is provided to select each chain type. No complicated operations are required, letting you concentrate on your recording.

High-quality PCM rhythms
Inside the D4 is a PCM sound generator that can produce 87 different rhythm patterns (32 metronome patterns and 55 rhythm patterns). The rich array of patterns include 8 beat, 16 beat, Rock, Funk, Big Beat, House, Reggae, Hip-Hop, R&B, Disco, Dance, Jazz, 3/4, 6/8, 5/4, and 7/4, covering a broad range from simple beats to highly distinctive styles. These rhythm patterns may be used as recording guides, or as an easy way to create tracks.

Reliable, convenient CompactFlash storage
CompactFlash capacities of 16 MB ? 2 GB are supported for data storage.*1*2 The data is written automatically when you?ve finished recording or editing. The D4 also provides a USB connector, so it?s easy to transfer song data and user effect data to your computer for backup.*3 Completed songs created within the D4 as stereo MPEG format*4 song files, can be played back as stereo MPEG files on your computer.*5 This also makes it easy to distribute or exchange data on the Internet.

The Apogee X-VID-SYC-GEN Video Expansion Card is designed to fit in the X-Series card slot located in the rear panel of the Apogee Big Ben Master Digital Clock (sold separately). Allows all functions to be controlled from the Big Ben user interface and generates video and provides genlocking function. In genlocking mode the source video-signal will be re-clocked and regenerated, maintaining the same
field and colorburst phase information, but stripped of its line information and replaced by video-black. In slave mode the board will auto-detect the incoming video-standard and configure itself accordingly. The video input is of very high tolerance and will even lock to unstable sources like VCR's.

The Apogee X-VID-SYC-GEN Video Expansion Board has three modes of operation.
•Master mode: The user selects the video format on the frontpanel of the Big Ben. The Big Ben will slave to the generated video signal


•Attended Slave mode: The video board will be configured to autodetect and genlock to the incoming video. The Big Ben will slave to the incoming video signal

•Unattended Slave mode: The video board will be configured to autodetect and genlock to the incoming video. The Big Ben is not clocking to the Video board and therefore both will function independently
