HeadAMP V – Five Channel Mixer/Amplifier Overview

Home recording studios have become a fact of life with more and more finished
products going straight from the spare room to the distributor. As a result there
is a need for flexible, professional headphone monitoring sufficient for a number
of performers, all at a reasonable cost. Basic headphone amps offer one set of
stereo inputs and volume-controlled headphone outputs, however more options
are needed in the studio. For example, it may be necessary to connect more
than one stereo source ? possibly the aux. or monitor output from the mixer plus
the stereo output of a tape deck or CD player. It may also be necessary to insert
reverb or EQ on certain headphone channels, and to interconnect two headphone
amps for additional performers. Naturally, there needs to be a level control for each
headset, clean, accurate reproduction and plenty of power.

HeadAMP V - Five Channel Mixer/Amplifier Specifications: Signal To Noise RatioPalmer Monicon, and the volume is right! With Palmer Monicon, your monitor volume is always under control. The passive mini-mixer with the oversized control is inserted between the stereo output of the notebook, PC or interface and an active monitor system and thus permits convenient and precise volume control of the monitors from the workstation. The passive circuitry with only a few components has absolutely no affect on the sound. Mute and mono buttons make it possible to mute the outputs and merge the stereo output signal into a mono master signal. The inputs and outputs of the controller are equipped with XLR connectors and the 3.5mm stereo TRS sockets usually found on computers. Combo input sockets also permit connection with 6.3 mm TRS plugs. Thus the Palmer Monicon is compatible with both professional and consumer equipment. Genuine wood sides make the practical studio tool in its massive powder-coated sheet steel housing an elegant looking "little helper" that is a typical Palmer product.

Overview

With Sennheiserʼs HDVD 800, sound is perfect. The HDVD 800 is able to connect with digital sources and is equipped with a high-quality Burr-Brown digital/analog converter (DAC) that converts digital audio data into analog signals with a resolution of 24 bits and a sampling rate of up to 192 kHz. This enables the HDVD 800 to transmit the entire frequency spectrum of high-end audio sources without any loss of frequencies.

In addition to the symmetrical inputs, the HDVD 800 also has an asymmetrical input socket; incoming signals are symmetrized before further processing takes place. Digital sources can be connected to the rear of the unit via an XLR (AES/EBU) input, optical and coaxial (S/PDIF) digital inputs or USB. All digital inputs accept signals up to 24 bit at 192 KHz*. Designed and manufactured in Germany, this high-end, solid-state amplifier harmonize perfectly and deliver an ultimate acoustic performance when paired with any of Sennheiserʼs audiophile headphones.

Features
D/A transducer for all common formats up to 24 bit / 192 kHz
D/A transducer can be used for CD and DVD players
AES/BU, S/PDIF, USB inputs
Symmetrical (XLR) and asymmetrical (RCA) analog inputs
Symmetrical output
Sockets for four sets of headphones (two of which symmetrical)

The PHDA02 - a reference class headphone amplifier with Stereo, Mono, and Dual Mono operation modes.

In Stereo mode, the L/R input signal is fed to the left and right earphones while the volume level is set by the Stereo/Left control. The front panel inputs provide simultaneous connection of two headphones in parallel. In Mono mode, the left and right channels are summed, and the resulting mono signal is fed to both the left and right earphones. Again, volume is governed by the Stereo/Left control. In Dual Mono mode, the left and right channels can be used independently with individual level controls for the left and right earphones.

The PHDA02 operates with all headphones with an impedance of 8 up to 200 Ohms. Impedance matching is achieved by a specially designed switchable transformer. Uncommon and costly, this solution provides superior performance, dynamic range, and signal-to-noise ratio at all loads.

Combo input sockets allow for balanced XLR and unbalanced TS headphone connection while parallel XLR outputs facilitate daisy chaining multiple units. The integrated power supply operates with mains from 100 VAC to 240 VAC.

The PHDA02 is equipped with low-noise op amps, and the output amplifiers' discrete power transistors are mounted on heatsinks. Dimensions are 1 U 9.5“.
