GENELEC ACTIVE LOUDSPEAKERS

Since its founding in 1978, the Finnish company Genelec has been known for its range of active monitor loudspeakers, featuring matched electronic-crossovers and individual amplifiers for each driver. Found in broadcast, recording and mastering studios worldwide, Genelec offer a range of monitors for all applications. A bi-amplified, two-way speaker suitable for a variety of applications where high-quality sound is needed in a compact space, from near-field and project studio monitoring to surround-sound, high-end installations and multimedia systems. This, the smallest speaker in the Genelec range features features magnetic shielding, aluminium cabinet, active crossover and 2 x 20W amplifiers. The amplifier section features switches for treble tilt, bass roll-off and bass tilt, and has a male XLR input and a female XLR output. It can also be used to feed a subwoofer (7050B recommended) or a further chain of up to 6 x 8020A units in total, with the lead control affecting level of the whole chain. Front-panel mains indicator LED and volume control are neatly styled, with rear IEC power input. The speaker has three methods of mounting: 3 mounting points on the back of the monitor for attaching the supplied IsoPod desktop stand, which allows vertical and horizontal positioning and can be fixed to the optional floor stand using the optional stand plate, threaded holes on the back for Omnimount size 20.5 brackets or the supplied keyhole wall-mount adapter and a three eighths of an inch thread on the base for microphone-stand mounting. Accessories available are a floor stand (speaker vertical or horizontal using IsoPod), stand plate (necessary for use with floor stand) and soft carrying bag for one pair of 8020Aʼs.

The hard-wearing, aluminium cabinet houses an active crossover, 2 x 90W amplifiers with overload protection, a metal-dome HF driver and polymer bass-driver, both magnetically shielded, and front-panel mains indicator LED. The crossover includes adjustable sensitivity and calibrated "tilt” switches for bass and treble adjustment. XLR balanced input and IEC mains input. The speaker has three methods of mounting: 3 mounting points on the back of the monitor for attaching the supplied IsoPod desktop stand, which allows vertical and horizontal positioning and can be fixed to the optional floor stand using the optional stand plate, threaded holes on the back for Omnimount size 30.0 brackets and a M10 x 10mm thread for securing the unit to the base. The crossover includes adjustable sensitivity and calibrated "tilt” switches for bass and treble adjustment. XLR balanced input and IEC mains input. The speaker has three methods of mounting: 3 mounting points on the back of the monitor for attaching the supplied IsoPod desktop stand, which allows vertical and horizontal positioning and can be fixed to the optional floor stand using the optional stand plate, threaded holes on the back for Omnimount size 60.0 brackets and a M10 x 10mm thread for securing the unit to the base. Although the same floor stand applies to all 8000 series models of Genelec speakers, each model uses a unique stand plate to allow connection to the stand. Please ensure the correct stand plate is ordered for your model of 8020A, 8030A, 8040A or 8050A speaker.

MYTHO 6 is a two-way reference studio monitor that features a high quality large metal dome tweeter for the best vocal reproduction and a 6” neodymium vented woofer with a large sized 51 mm voice coil that guarantees very high energy for tight and controlled bass reproduction and perfect thermal stability with minimum power compression.

The magnetic circuit features a special air ventilation to reduce air compression, air noises and minimize distortion in large excursion situations. The MYTHO 6 is equipped with two separate amplifiers: 200 W for the low frequencies and 100 W for the high. The design is a classic AB circuit, unparalleled for low distortion and natural sound. The signal processing is executed from a dedicated high quality DSP processing. It features a solid aluminium cabinet internally braced and reinforced to improve low frequencies behaviour and reduce resonances.

The new A5X

The similar dimensions and name could make one believe that the A5X is nothing more than a new version of the A5. A quick listening however leaves no doubt that the A5X is much more than that.

Like all other models of the AX-Series it features the proprietary X-ART tweeter. The very data of this technology shows that it is at the forefront of what tweeters can accomplish. Numerous listening tests have confirmed this.

A 5.5” Midwoofer reproduces the frequencies below 2.5kHz. The diaphragm is made from Carbon fiber/Rohacell/Glass fiber, which is the same composite structure shared in the next two bigger models. This material with minimum weight and maximum rigidity prevents break up resonances, resulting in an outstanding dynamic behaviour and impeccable sound characteristics.

Stereolink

A very handy and exclusive feature found in the two smaller AX monitors is the Stereolink. This is accomplished by a pair of additional RCA connections that allow for a bypass of the second stereo channel to the other speaker.

This new technology connects two A5X speakers in such a manner as to allow the user the option to control the overall stereo volume of the system from either speakers gain control. This makes the A5X a natural for "mixer-less” desktop applications where overall system volume needs to be adjusted easily.

Controls and Connectors

The front of the A5X sports dual ports for surprisingly low frequency response down to 50Hz. The front panel also has power and gain controls. The rear panel includes a tweeter gain control as well as balanced (XLR) jacks and unbalanced (RCA) jacks, allowing for greater connection flexibility. There are also two M6 (6 mm) metric screw threads for stand/wall mounting.
