Beauty and the bookshelf.
Space constraints should never compromise great sound, and the Uni-Fi BS U5 Slim is the perfect solution when floor space is at a premium, but audiophile sound and refined good looks are not negotiable. Using the same outstanding driver and crossover components of its bigger brother, this compact, 3-way, bass-reflex monitor delivers the sonic signature of Uni-Fi in a smaller package.

A benchmark to celebrate 90 years of ELAC achievement.
Uni-Fi Slim are the latest additions to the Uni-Fi family of bookshelf, floorstanding and center-channel speakers. The Slim series brings a sophisticated European flair to Uni-Fi, with cabinets that are slimmer, taller and deeper than the originals. And each comes in a high-quality satin painted black or white finish to complement the most elegant décor.
Like the originals, each model in the Slim series is designed by Andrew Jones, and employs the same concentric driver responsible for the award-winning sound of Uni-Fi. Ideal time-domain characteristics result from combining a tweeter and midrange diaphragm within a single voice coil—delivering the most coherent and accurate reproduction across the treble and midrange frequency spectrums. Importantly, Uni-Fi Slim sounds exactly the same as Uni-Fi, employing an identical driver complement, crossover, internal cabinet structure and volume. Only the shape and cabinet are even more refined, featuring a smaller footprint and smooth, satin finish.
ELAC’s chief engineer Andrew Jones explains how Uni-Fi Slim speakers are built on the same foundation: “My goal with the original Uni-Fi series was to create a line of speakers with technology and performance normally reserved for speakers costing significantly more, by going with a 3-way design and employing a new in-house developed concentric driver. With Uni-Fi Slim, design-conscious listeners can enjoy the same outstanding sound along with more elegant proportions ad slim, high-quality cosmetics.”
Uni-Fi Slim can be the basis of an outstanding two-channel system, or used to build an awe-inspiring multi-channel surround-sound system. Add an ELAC subwoofer for the last word in music and movie soundtrack reproduction.
Custom-designed concentric driver
The delicacy of a 1-inch soft-dome tweeter and the harmonic accuracy of a rigid aluminum 4-inch midrange cone come together in a symphony of sonic perfection. Positioning the tweeter concentrically within the midrange voice coil achieves a uniform directivity pattern, for flat frequency response and formidable power handling, along with enhanced imaging for both on- and off-axis listening positions. |
High Performance, Compact Size, Surprising Price
Don't settle for flat sound from your flat panel TV, and don't miss out on the excitement of digital surround-sound in your shows, movies and games. Great surround-sound doesn't have to take up a lot of space or cost all that much. The payback is family fun and entertainment excitement. Don't miss out.
TL1 Features:
- The silk dome tweeter delivers a classic, clear, detailed Polk performance, with pinpoint imaging and smooth highs that are never tiring.
- Time Lens® technology aligns the acoustic centers of the tweeter and mid-bass driver on the same spatial plane for superior imaging, while an acoustic lens incorporated in the grille smoothes the tweeter's frequency response.
- The unique curved enclosure design employs non-parallel surfaces to strengthen the acoustically inert enclosure and deliver less audible coloration from internal surface resonances.
- Because of its Extended Linear Motion motor structure, the moving parts of the drivers used in the Blackstone TL Series can move farther, more smoothly, in a smaller space than any other speaker driver in an enclosure this size, achieving the kind of dynamic response (clarity, volume) you'd expect from much larger speakers.
- An aperiodic-tuned rear-firing bass port combines the extension of a ported enclosure with the smoother low-end of an acoustic suspension enclosure, controlling port air flow for the kind of big bass response, and perfect speaker-subwoofer blending, you'd never expect from a loudspeaker you can hold in the palm of your hand.
- The Blackstone aerated polypropylene cone is lightweight, but stiff and strong, with longer linear excursion capabilities in a limited compact enclosure space, so it plays louder with less distortion.
- A super-small long-throw mid-bass driver, tuned with our patented Dynamic Balance® technology, delivers astonishingly smooth, flat frequency response, superior transparency and detail, and the surprising ability to play really, really loud for such a small speaker.
- Polk's proprietary, patented Dynamic Balance technology allows our engineers to design out distortion-causing driver and system resonances, so you only hear the good sounds.
- Hi-Gloss "Blackstone" finish, a durable, deep automotive-strength finish that matches today's most stylish flat-panel TVs and furniture.
- Compact means go-anywhere for Blackstone TL: on shelves, on the wall, on stands. Built-in keyhole slots and threaded inserts (that fit virtually any brackets) give you multiple mounting options.
- Gold-plated, professional-style 5-way binding posts, for the most secure connection options.
- All models in the Blackstone TL Series are available in convenient, professionally matched 5-packs for instant home theater solutions in any room. There are two complete systems available that include a subwoofer; everything you need for an explosive, compact, easy-to-connect home theater system. Plus, you can use individually-available satellites to expand your systems to accommodate 6.1, 7.1 and beyond.

The M-1 has been engineered with the same design attributes and ethos as B&Wʼs larger ranges. Perhaps the most striking thing about the M-1 is the weight and strength of its curved aluminium cabinet. This is combined with a strong, glass-loaded ABS front baffle. Together they provide an excellent cabinet: the curved aluminium is stiff and the ABS offers excellent and appropriate damping characteristics.
The M-1ʼs drive units were developed by Bowers & Wilkins specifically for the design. The metal dome tweeter benefits from refinements developed for the new B&W 800 Series and includes Nautilus™ tube loading and neodymium magnets. The glass fibre bass/midrange coneʼs ability to absorb standing waves has been further enhanced by the inclusion of five strategically placed resin filled slots that further minimise distortion.
The result of this detailed cabinet and drive unit engineering has allowed B&Wʼs engineers to borrow another feature from the new 800 Series and utilise the simplest of electronic equalisation in the M-1ʼs crossover. Each of the drive units is fed by only a single, carefully selected component. This approach to crossover design, although painstaking as it relies on optimising all of the physical components in a design, is crucial in achieving its aim of neither adding to nor subtracting from the original signal.
The M-1 is available in three colour options - black, white and silver, each with chromium plated stem and table base.
