DN200

The DN200 has become an established favorite amongst both engineers and musicians alike. With its high headroom, dynamic response and sonic clarity, DN200 faithfully reproduces the character of electric and acoustic instruments and allows far more of the detail of musical performances to be captured. DN200 is intended for professional applications where +48 V phantom power is a standard feature on all mixing consoles, and its innovative design results in a significantly higher clipping point than many other active DI Boxes, providing +10 dBu output into a 2 KΩ load. This increased headroom means that much higher-level input signals can be accommodated without the need for an attenuating pad. Combined with a very low noise input circuit topology, DN200 offers a very wide dynamic range, and only requires the -20 dB pad when connecting directly to instrument amplifier outputs or other very high-level signal sources.

DN200 is built to handle the rigours of life on the road, a thick aluminium extrusion protects the electronics, and in turn is protected by tough silicone rubber corners

Balanced Transformer-Isolated Output

Exhaustive listening tests using a wide variety of active and passive bass guitars, electro-acoustic guitars and electronic musical instruments were carried out to select the components for DN200 to achieve the best musical sound. Not only was the choice of the audio transformer particularly important in achieving this goal, but the impedances of the surrounding components were also highly critical in getting the best possible performance out of the audio transformer. The line-driving characteristics of the transformer output were carefully optimized to provide the best frequency and phase responses for short and long cables and widely differing line and termination impedances.

Care was taken in the design of the DN200 to avoid audio transformer core saturation and a fixed high pass filter has been included in the signal path to roll off frequencies below those that are musically important. The lowest note on a 5- or 6-string bass guitar is B0 with a frequency of 30.87 Hz, and the lowest note on an 88-key piano keyboard is A0 with a frequency of 27.50 Hz. DN200 still maintains a frequency response of ±0.5 dB at these lowest musical notes.

As well as the transformers in the signal path, DN200 also has a transformer to isolate the power rails to the input circuit from the phantom power supply sourced from the output XLR connector. When used in conjunction with the Earth Lift switch, this full galvanic isolation of input and output interfaces ensures that any risk of earth loops is avoided when taking a direct feed from stage backline equipment.

Dual-Impedance Stereo Inputs

A custom instrumentation-grade balanced input circuit was designed for the DN200 using advanced analogue design techniques to create the very high input impedance required by passive guitar and bass pickups, whilst keeping the actual component values low to minimize noise. This innovative approach to circuit design produces a very low noise floor, which combined with the high clipping point creates an unrivalled dynamic range in a +48 V phantom powered DI Box.

DN200 features dual parallel-connected combo XLR’s / ¼” TRS inputs. When connecting to the Combo XLR input, the input impedance is 20 kΩ, ideal for line level equipment and offering even lower noise performance. This input impedance is far too low for guitar and bass pickups and is removed from the circuit when a jack plug is inserted into the Combo ¼” TRS input, resulting in a nominal 1 MΩ input impedance, ideal for passive electric pickups.

DN200 is also equipped with a Stereo input mini jack which is ideal for connecting MP3 players or mobiles phones etc.

Illuminated 20dB Pad and Earth Lift Switches

DN200 features illuminated -20 dB Pad and Earth Lift switches. The Earth Lift switch separates the input and output grounds, useful in eliminating earth loops between equipment on different mains electricity supplies.

Illuminated Sum and Split switches

For added convenience the DN200 has illuminated Sum and Split switches which along with the +48V phantom power indicator LED’s, provide ‘at a glance’ status display even at wide distances and viewing angles. The Sum switch allows a stereo input signals to be combined into a mono signal which appears at both the L and R output XLR’s. The Split switch takes the L input and sends it to both the L and R output XLR’s.

The ¼” TRS Link Thru jacks may be used for a parallel input connection to a guitar or bass amplifier.

Built for the Road

Featuring a tough aluminium extrusion, the DN200 is designed for the rigours of live concert touring. The protective rubber corners also insulate the DN200 chassis to further enhance its electrical isolation. Premium Neutrik XLR connectors are used to ensure reliable audio connections, night after night.

Behringer DI-400P High-Performance Passive Direct Injection Box Introducing the Ultra-Compact DI-Boxes from BEHRINGER There are times when you will want to connect certain sound sources straight to other audio gear, be it for a live performance or a studio session. A direct connection between audio equipment can be a challenge though: technical problems crop up that?ll corrupt the signal. The DI400P lets you connect instruments or amplifier outputs. It converts any unbalanced signal to a balanced signal and eliminates unwanted noise. With its high-performance transformer, it also allows you to use very long cables without the loss of high frequencies. This is the sort of medicine that?ll cure headaches in your studio or on stage.

The Stewart ADB-1 is a single channel active direct box that allows an unbalanced source to
directly feed a balanced input. Musical instruments, tape recorders, VCRs and sound projectors
can be run "direct" to the mixing console, avoiding unnecessary degradation of sound quality.
The ADB-1 operates on either phantom power or a 9-volt battery.

FEATURES:
Flat response
Low distortion
Low noise
Wide dynamic range
No transformer
RF protection on input and output
Switchable ground isolation
Flush mounted slide switches

With added functionality and enhanced audio performance, the AR-133 has been designed to be more affordable for musicians, studios and PA companies. The unit includes phantom power and battery supplies as standard. Should the phantom power from the console fail or be accidentally switched off, the AR-133 automatically switches over to the internal 9V battery providing uninterrupted use. The unit is housed in a rugged aluminium extrusion case, with robust polyurethane end-cheeks which give the AR-133 a very distinctive look. Input connectors are both 1/4" jack sockets and an XLR socket, the latter meaning that the AR-133 can be used to convert unbalanced signals to a balanced output on XLRs throughout. The arched case allows cables to run back underneath the unit from the end for neat cable management. Input attenuation is 0, -20 or -40dB, making the box suitable for instrument, line or amplifier levels on inputs. On the output side, a ground-lift switch is provided for quick solutions to ground-loop problems. The AR-133 uses an enhanced version of the same audio path as the AR-116, now regarded by many people as a reference standard. The sound quality is legendary, particularly on acoustic and bass guitars. Numerous applications can be satisfied by the AR-133. For example, as well as the traditional guitar use, the AR-133 can be used with keyboards, DJ consoles, amplifier outputs, and other electronic sources. An additional bonus is the ability to use the AR-133 as an active balancing device.
