The Radial StageBug SB-4 is a compact active direct box that has been optimized for use with piezo transducers. This enables violin, dobro, mandolin, cello, upright bass and other instruments that are best amplified using a piezo to be connected without compromising the tone or frequency response.
The design begins with a ¼” input for the instrument pickup. Unlike typical direct boxes that have a 1meg-ohm input impedance, the SB-4 features a very high 5meg-ohm impedance that smoothes out troublesome peaks that give piezos a bad name. The higher impedance also broadens the frequency response for a more natural and pleasing sound. The active circuit performs the high-to-low impedance conversion and balances the signal to enable long runs upwards to 100 meters without loss, delivering spectacular linearity and low distortion throughout the audio range.
To help eliminate feedback on stage, the SB-4 is equipped with a high-pass filter and 180° polarity reverse switch. The high pass filter eliminates excessive bottom end which in turn reduces resonance that can cause the top of the instrument to vibrate. The 180° polarity reverse helps reduce acoustic hot spots on stage by changing the phase relationship between the PA system and room acoustics which can combine at certain frequencies to create peaks.
Reversing the polarity eliminates the acoustic peak without resorting to severe equalization which only serves to compromise the natural tone of the instrument. Connections include an AUX out for a stage amplifier plus a standard XLR output to feed the PA. Power is derived from the console’s 48V phantom, thus eliminating the need for batteries or external supply. One simply connects, turns on the phantom power and plays.
Features:
Active DI optimized for piezo transducers
Smoothes out peaks, eliminates squawk
High pass filter eliminates resonance
Ultra compact to fit in your guitar case
Weight
0.50 kg

At dbx, when we do something, we do it right. So when we decided to create our new direct injection boxes, we didnʼt settle for the same old tired approach to direct box design. With our dbx name on the line, how could we? One look at our new dB10 Passive and dB12 Active direct boxes will tell you that these are clearly different. With their bullet-proof construction, and extraordinary audio performance to rival their looks, finally thereʼs a direct box worthy of the dbx name.
Utilizing custom dbx mu-metal-shielded audio transformers, high-quality Neutrik® connectors, and low-noise circuitry preserves the sonic integrity and true characteristics of the signal source. Both boxes include a pad switch that accomodates instrument, line and even speaker level signals. Take even more control of your sound by utilizing the polarity invert switch to set the phase relationship between the direct and mic'd sound.
As a professional, you donʼt have time for interference, so weʼve included a ground lift switch to solve potential hum and buzz problems due to ground loops. And between the combined shielding of the cast metal chassis and the custom-wound transformer, you can be doubly assured of a clean signal free from interference. All of this sits atop a solid, stable footprint, that will keep the box from being dragged around the stage, and the unique contoured underside allows secure stacking of multiple units.
So whether you need to control the level, placement in the mix, or overall characteristics of 4 independent signals or control the gain leveling on a couple of stereo pairs, the dbx dB12 is for you.

With added functionality and enhanced audio performance, the AR-133 has been
designed to be more affordable for musicians, studios and PA companies.
The unit includes phantom power and battery supplies as standard. Should the
phantom power from the console fail or be accidentally switched off, the AR-133
automatically switches over to the internal 9V battery providing uninterrupted use.
The unit is housed in a rugged aluminium extrusion case, with robust polyurethane
end-cheeks which give the AR-133 a very distinctive look.
Input connectors are both 1/4" jack sockets and an XLR socket, the latter meaning
that the AR-133 can be used to convert unbalanced signals to a balanced output on
XLRs throughout.
The arched case allows cables to run back underneath the unit from the end for neat
cable management.
Input attenuation is 0, -20 or -40dB, making the box suitable for instrument, line or
amplifier levels on inputs. On the output side, a ground-lift switch is provided for quick
solutions to ground-loop problems.
The AR-133 uses an enhanced version of the same audio path as the AR-116, now
regarded by many people as a reference standard. The sound quality is legendary,
particularly on acoustic and bass guitars.
Numerous applications can be satisfied by the AR-133. For example, as well as the
traditional guitar use, the AR-133 can be used with keyboards, DJ consoles, amplifier
outputs, and other electronic sources. An additional bonus is the ability to use the AR-133
as an active balancing device.
