Content | The Radial StageBug SB-4 is a compact active direct box that has been optimized for use with piezo transducers. This enables violin, dobro, mandolin, cello, upright bass and other instruments that are best amplified using a piezo to be connected without compromising the tone or frequency response.
The design begins with a ¼" input for the instrument pickup. Unlike typical direct boxes that have a 1meg-ohm input impedance, the SB-4 features a very high 5meg-ohm impedance that smoothes out troublesome peaks that give piezos a bad name. The higher impedance also broadens the frequency response for a more natural and pleasing sound. The active circuit performs the high-to-low impedance conversion and balances the signal to enable long runs upwards to 100 meters without loss, delivering spectacular linearity and low distortion throughout the audio range.
To help eliminate feedback on stage, the SB-4 is equipped with a high-pass filter and 180° polarity reverse switch. The high pass filter eliminates excessive bottom end which in turn reduces resonance that can cause the top of the instrument to vibrate. The 180° polarity reverse helps reduce acoustic hot spots on stage by changing the phase relationship between the PA system and room acoustics which can combine at certain frequencies to create peaks.
Reversing the polarity eliminates the acoustic peak without resorting to severe equalization which only serves to compromise the natural tone of the instrument. Connections include an AUX out for a stage amplifier plus a standard XLR output to feed the PA. Power is derived from the console's 48V phantom, thus eliminating the need for batteries or external supply. One simply connects, turns on the phantom power and plays.
Features:
- Active DI optimized for piezo transducers
- Smoothes out peaks, eliminates squawk
- High pass filter eliminates resonance
- Ultra compact to fit in your guitar case
| Standard active DI box. Can be operated with 9 V batteries or 48 V phantom power. High-impedance input; higher output level than with a passive DI box. Active circuitry allows for high input impedance ( 1 meg. ohm) and higher input sensitivity (typical difference between in and out -4 dB). Maximum output impedance with phantom power operation +10 dB. Output: transformer balanced. The special "floating ground" circuitry enables ground lift even during phantom power operation. Metal case 110 x 73 x 42 mm. |
The alphaton Direct Injection-Box SM-50 allows direct connection of electric guitars,
electric bass, and electronic music instruments with mixing desks of PA systems
and of recording studios.
The SM-50 reduces the amount of microphones used on stage, thus improving gain
before feedback.
Coloration of sound is avoided. Clean signal without interference from other instruments
eases the job of the recording engineer. The use of a strong aluminium die-cast box allows
trouble-free function for a number of years even under adverse conditions. Double grounding
(hum) can be eliminated by activating the built-in ground-lift switch. Isolation voltage between
input and output is 2500 volts, against ground 1500 volts (with ground-lift switch activated).
The box thus complies with toughest safety standards.

Tube-buffered DI-Box DI-1000
The Tube-Buffered DI-Box DI-1000 allows the extraction of all the musical details of musical interfaces without degrading the sound. This can only be achieved by providing a very high input impedance to avoid any loading of instrument pickups. This design approach allows seemingly infinite headroom to preserve the real dynamic range of the interfaced instruments.A vacuum tube enables all these goals to be achieved without any compromises in sound quality. The sonic difference between a standard DI-Box and the Tube-Buffered DI-Box is comparable to the musical resolution difference between a standard microphone and a studio microphone. One of the best transformers, the very transparent sounding JENSEN JT-DB-E, was chosen providing complete ground isolation. The parameters of this transformer, like frequency response, phase response, group delay and geadroom capabilities, play a vital part in the performance of this DI-Box. Technical Specifications Input The signal of the instrument is directly fed to the tube circuit with > 20 MOhms input impedance to prevent any signal degradation, inevitable in traditional designs. Buffered Output“ The second stage of the vacuum tube is used to buffer the signal and lower the output impedance to < 8 kOhms. This unity gain output allows for cable runs of 10 meters without loosing high frequency information. Boost circuit The boost circuit increases the signal send to the output transformer by 15 dB. This may be useful for instruments with extremely low output, but decreases headroom capability to 6 Volt rms. Under these circumstances the signal may be clipped, concerning the output transformer?s signal, which gives you 2nd harmonic tube-like distortion. This distortion normally does not occur - but is sometimes desirable, being the reason for this special feature. Unity circuit The unity circuit feeds a low distortion unity gain signal to the JENSEN output transformer. This gives the best possible sound quality. Ground-lift“-Switch This front panel mounted switch allows complete ground and electrical isolation between the direct injection box and the console or recording device.
